The Impact of Tree Roots on your Main Sewer Line:
Your Main Sewer line runs from your home, out to the end of your driveway, where your main drain line hooks into the city sanitary sewer.
Tree roots require oxygen and water to grow. Growth rate is affected by the soil depth, water supply and temperature.
Trees are made up of large roots for support and stabilization and many small temporary feeder roots and root hairs.
These small roots are the primary water and nutrient absorbers.
Most roots can be found in the top 6 to 18 inches of soil,where water nutrients and oxygen are found.
Roots generally extend up to two or three times the height of the tree. They can extend as far as seven times the height of the tree.
Large, mature trees have thousands of feet of roots, searching for nutrients. Roots will be less in clay soils then in sandy or well drained soils.
Main Sewer Drain Line Breakage:
Once roots have entered the pipes, they continue to grow and expand, exerting considerable pressure against the Main Sewer Drain lines. The increased pressure will break the pipes and will result in total collapse. Which requires Total replacement of underground Sewer lines.
